Mickey's Story

Before Micky came to Joel his life had been turned upside down by the death of his mother, his daughter and finally his younger brother, all within 18 months.

Night Shelter Manager

"People support us in so many ways; whether through volunteering or giving. We are indebted to the many individuals and organisations who support us by donating vital funds. It's no exaggeration to say that the Joel Night Shelter wouldn't function without all of our wonderful Supporters from the wider community."

Any hidden talents? How about organising a bake-sale or possibly even run that half-marathon you've been meaning to do, in aid of Joel.  For more information please contact Sue Cole at comms@joelcommunity.org

Talking at your church, school or workplace

We love to come and talk about the work of the Joel Community Night Shelter and homelessness issues in the Kingston Borough. Our staff regularly give school assemblies as well as delivering talks and presentations in churches and the workplace. We also offer training to community partners in how to support vulnerable people on the streets.

Hosting your refreshments

At the Joel Night Shelter we are all about building community and ending isolation - this is vitally important in helping people to get back on their feet. Volunteering is a fantastic way of giving our guests a sense of purpose and belonging. Many guests volunteer regularly at church lunches and out in the community, but we'd love to give them more opportunities to serve!

We're offering to send small teams of Joel guests to host teas and coffees and even brunches at your Sunday church services or mid-week community gatherings. Guests would be fully supervised by our highly-trained staff.  If you are interested please do get in touch - we'd love to hear from you!  Please contact Sue Cole at comms@joelcommunity.org

Legacy giving

Leaving a gift in your will is one of the best ways to fund the future work of The Joel Community - helping us to continue extending love, food, friendship and shelter to vulnerable people in the years ahead. If you have already made a will but would like to make a legacy gift to The Joel Community, you contact a solicitor to make an addition or change without re-writing your current will. For more information please contact Karrie at: development@joelcommunity.org

Care packs

Our guests love to receive 'Care Packs' containing items from our Wish List such as Oyster cards (topped up with £5 max), clean new socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hand sanitizer (alcohol-free), belts (second hand is fine) and tissues or wet wipes. For more information please click here
